Membership At Temple
Judea
Are you interested in becoming a part of the Jewish community in
Ft. Myers? All of us at
Temple Judea are eager to welcome you, and
we know that you will find a comfortable,
spiritual home in the sacred
community that is our congregation.
First of all, we invite you to visit synagogue. A major part
of synagogue affiliation is the relationship
you will have with our community. We would be delighted to spend some
time getting to know you and your family. We can assure
you that no matter what your level
of observance or the make-up of your family, you are welcome at Temple
Judea.
Secondly, if you have preschool age children, we urge you to meet
with our Preschool
Director, Joann Goldman, or her Assistant Director,
Maria Hunt. Our accredited preschool
is one of the crown jewels of
our synagogue. You can read more about Temple Judea
Preschool here.
Of course, we would love for you to join us for a service, as well.
For many people, our
monthly Friday Night Live service is ideal.
FNL is the Friday night when we have musical
accompaniment to our
service. That service runs no more than one hour and the brevity,
combined with the lively music, makes it very family-friendly. Friday
Night Live is usually
the second Friday of each month. Friday Night Live
begins at 7:30,
thirty minutes earlier
than our other Friday night services. There are
exceptions, so please check our
News and Events Page.
Our traditional Shabbat morning service begins at 9:00. This first
part of the service
contains some congregational singing, but it
is primarily a time for quiet, contemplative
prayer. Most of the
early service is chanted quietly.
Others may prefer to arrive a bit later. If you come at 10:00, you
will be in time for the
Torah service. It includes a summary of the
weekly Torah portion,
the Torah and haftarah readings
themselves, and after the Torah has been returned
to the Ark, a brief
talk (D’var Torah). This talk frequently
includes questions or comments from the congregation.
The final part of the service includes a mix of silent prayer and
congregational singing.
The service ends between 11:30 and 12:00,
and is followed by a Kiddush luncheon.
Some families with young children
come just for the end of the service and the Kiddush.
Feel free to
do so as well.
We at Temple Judea hope you will take as many of the above suggestions
that apply
to you and your family. We feel that Temple Judea may
just be that congregation which
fulfills all of your spiritual, educational
and social needs.
